Nashville uses the power of running to provide 3rd and 4th grade girls with the necessary tools to embrace their individual strengths and prevent future at risk behavior. Trained volunteer coaches lead twice-weekly, after-school sessions, guiding and mentoring girls through fun activities designed to change the way the girls see themselves. The health and wellness curriculum combines training for a 5k (3.1 mile) event with self-esteem enhancing lessons that cover topics such as healthy decisions, peer pressure, bullying, body image and the media, the value of cooperation, and community service. The non-competitive program emphasizes positive attitudes and perseverance and celebrates each girl as she strives to do her best.

Girls on the Run® Nashville seeks volunteer coaches, crucial to both the success of existing programs and to our continued expansion. Coaches experience the program first hand and have a ton of fun with their team of fellow coaches and incredible girls; they do not have to be runners themselves! Ten week programs meet twice a week, after-school for an hour and a half. Coaches must be available after-school hours; head coaches are expected to attend every session. Serving as an assistant coach is a perfect opportunity for those who can’t make the twice-weekly time commitment to be a head coach!
Spring 2011 we will have two programs at Percy Priest – M/W 3:15-4:45 and T/Th 3:15-4:45.
If this opportunity speaks to you, please check out our wesbite www.gotrnashville.org/get-involved; for further information please contact vol@gotrnashville.org.
