In 2001, every elementary school was provided with a bookroom filled with thousands of dollars of reading materials and a Reading Specialist. Our Reading Specialist, Dr. Alice Henley, provides added intervention for struggling student readers and professional development for teachers in the area of reading instruction. The Reading Specialist also manages all bookroom materials and consults with parents on improving their children's reading ability. Our current reading specialist is certified in Reading Recovery instruction, which provides intense one-on-one tutoring for our most at-risk first grade students.

Our consulting teacher, Dr. KK Wynn, holds a doctorate degree in education and is a dynamic addition to our PPE family. She spends time researching best teaching practices and helping our teachers implement the very best instruction in the classroom. She also works with small groups of students to provide enrichment or other supplemental instruction.
