Percy Priest ENCORE

The Encore Program is a general education program designed specifically to address the needs of intellectually gifted and academically talented learners.

Our goals are as follows:

-To develop students' abilities to solve problems through challenging the creative and critical thinking processes.

-To promote productive interactions among group members.

-To extend the general curriculum through a synthesis of the liberal arts and aesthetic education.

-To explore the world of academia through the application of scientific and mathematical reasoning skills.

Our students are eager to know the "how" and "why"; therefore, they are provided the opportunity to go deeper and wider in the Tennessee standards. Units of study such as Inventions, Mysteries, Building Big/Local Wonders encourage the great curiosity about objects, situations and events. Hands-on activities, problem solving, and group exploration define the Encore classroom.

No two classes are ever the same as we venture into the many facets of discovery. One new student went home after the first Encore class and said, "My brain hurts from so much thinking."
