Welcome to First Grade!

We love first grade at Percy Priest! The skills that are introduced in first grade are very important to your child’s success in school. These skills build the foundation for more complex concepts that will be experienced in the upper grades. We want all first graders to be organized, independent workers. As first grade teachers, we want this foundation to set the stage for later learning.

We meet the different needs of all first graders through writing block, guided reading groups, and challenging Sunshine Math. We want all children to love reading. To enrich the love of reading, we visit the Children’s Theatre twice a year, and we visit the Downtown Public Library. We also close our unit of study on organisms on a field trip to our neighboring state park, Radnor Lake. Learning is FUN in first grade!
