3rd Grade News

Hello families!

We hope that you had a wonderful week!

Thank you so much for bringing in canned goods for Second Harvest food bank.  We could still use more help!  The most needed items are: peanut butter, canned meats, canned vegetables, canned fruits, rice & beans, macaroni & cheese, pasta, and cereal.  Thank you for your generosity.

Here are some important dates:

  • As a reminder, the semester ends today, October 5th.
  • There will be NO SCHOOL on October 12th for students.  Fall Break is October 15th-19th.
  • We’ll see you back on October 22nd.
  • Report Cards will be issued October 23rd.
  • Fall picture retakes and class photos will be on October 24th.

Here is what we are up to this week:

ELA: Students will still have spelling words this week even though it is a shortened week.  The test will occur on Thursday instead of Friday, so plan accordingly! 🙂 We are continuing our IFL unit.  Our story for this week is “Cloud Fishing”.  We will explore how authors use language to create interesting and entertaining stories.  For grammar, our focus will be on adjectives.

MATH: We are continuing our exploration of division and its relationship to multiplication.  We will complete a fun project using our knowledge of multiplication and division to create a cityscape.  Our multiplication focus for this week will be multiples of 6.  This one is ALWAYS tricky even though we’ve already studied most of the multiples.  Please be sure to work with your child to reinforce those facts! 🙂  (And PLEASE don’t forget about them over the break!)

SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES: We are tying up loose ends in Social Studies this week.  Our study of the regions has been fun.  Be sure to ask your child a question about the regions of the United States.  In Science, we are moving on to plants and animals.  We’ll study the different internal and external structures of plants and animals.

As always, please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.
