Dear PPE Parents,
Due to the pandemic, we could not conduct our traditional in-person Chess Program this Fall, and might not be able to resume it in the near future. Yet chess is a valuable educational tool and a great game, and opportunities are still available to learn it.
For those interested, I offer private and small group lessons for kids (and adults!). Please feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thanks to a grant this year, all PPE students received a free premium membership on Chesskid.com- a very popular chess program offering a variety of resources to learn and play. You should be able to access it on Clever. My recommendations are:
– To get started, when you connect/log in to Chesskid, select Learn, then Lessons. Watch the first few of these interactive lessons- they are fun!
– When kids learn how the pieces move, they can start playing: select Play, followed by Play vs Bot.
– As kids get a bit more proficient and familiar with Chesskid, they may start playing other kids using the program, as well as use other resources.
– Efforts are underway to create an opportunity for kids to compete in class, intra-school and inter-school (MNPS) championships on Chesskid in the Spring. Chess Bee anyone?
Look forward to seeing PPE students acquainted with chess. Best wishes to everyone in this holiday season. Stay well!
