3rd Grade News: 10/30

Hello Families!

Thanks for a great first full week of Third Grade! Next week we are going to begin sending home written homework on Mondays and Wednesdays. This will be ELA homework. Students are expected to complete the homework and return it to school the next day.

Important Dates:

  • November 3–No School, Election Day
  • November 11–No School, Veteran’s Day
  • November 25-27–Thanksgiving Holiday

Here is what we’ll be up to this week:

  • In ELA we will focus on writing. This week the students will pretend that they are tour guides through our Solar System. In their writing, students will “travel” to each planet and describe what they see or experience on each planet. We will also study possessive nouns. Phonics will continue as usual; students will be assessed on Friday.
  • In Math, we will be working on classifying quadrilaterals. We will talk a lot about what makes a quadrilateral and how to name quadrilaterals.
  • In Social Studies, we are going to be working on regions of the United States. Student will also begin learning about the 50 states. Be on the lookout for a packet in your child’s folder on MONDAY, November 2. Your child will be tested on the location of all 50 states–the test will be December 11 (so there’s PLENTY of time to study).

As always, please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.
