We can hardly believe that we’re here in the fourth quarter! This is such a fun, exciting, and busy time in fourth grade. Below is a list and a few details about upcoming important 4th grade events at PPE.

Mark your calendars!

– April 1 (TODAY): Walking Tour Field Trip (wear field trip shirts and tennis shoes)
– April 4-8: Book Fair

  • The Book Fair will be open for families to shop from 3:30-5:00 on Monday, April 4th.
  • We’re encouraging families to use the Scholastic Book Fair eWallet. The eWallet is a safe and secure alternative to cash. You can create a free account and add funds that will allow your child to select books.

– April 8: Grandparent and Special Friends Day (10:00-11:00)

  • *We encourage those attending to come early to sign in and receive their ID badges from the office. If grandparents are in town, they can also stop by the office prior to the 8th to get their badge without the long line!

– April 14-15: Spring Holiday-No School
– April 19-21: ELA TNReady
– April 26-27: Math TNReady
– April 28: Science TNReady
– May 6: Mother/Son Movie Night and Father/Daughter Dance! Details to come.

– May 18: Field Day
– May 20 (morning): Spring Sing, House Party Awards/4th Grade Promotion Ceremony (Parents are welcome to join us that morning to celebrate!)
– May 21: 4th Grade Ropes Course (Hosted by room parents, not a school sponsored event)
– May 26: Last Day of School! (half day)

What Fourth Graders are Learning This Week:

– Core Texts- George vs. George vs. George: The Revolutionary War as Seen from Both Sides by: Rosalyn Schanzer and Colonial Voices: Hear Them Speak by Kay Winters
– Essential Question: Why is it important to understand all sides of a story?
– Focusing Question: What were the perspectives of the two main sides of the American Revolution?
– Writing- Explanatory and Opinion Writing
– Grammar- suffixes -able and -ible; identifying and correcting fragments and run-on sentences; spiral review for TN Ready (quiz Friday).

Social Studies:
– SW 26: Battles of the Civil War and SW 27 Women of the Civil War (combined test Wednesday, April 13 due to short week)

-Spiral Review of fourth grade skills
-Focus: Finding unknown angle measures, additive angles, types of triangles
-Fluency: Please continue encouraging your child to practice multiplication and division facts!
-Weekly assessment on Thursday
