Kindergarten News: 11/12

Hi Parents,
Tom Turkey is breathing a sigh of relief due to many creative turkey disguises! Looks like he will have a very safe and happy Thanksgiving.
This past week, we learned how Veteran’s Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans who served or are currently serving. We are thankful for their bravery and sacrifice.
Here’s what is coming up in kindergarten…
ELA: Essential Question: How do our senses help us learn?
Focusing Question: How do the module texts build my knowledge of the senses?
~With prompting and support, ask and answer questions about key details in a text
~With guidance and support from adults, recall information from experiences or gather information from provided sources to answer a question
~Spell simple words phonetically, drawing on knowledge of sound-letter relationships
~Use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to compose informative/explanatory texts in which they name what they are writing about and supply some information about the topic
~Write the letters that represent most phonemes and apply them to their own writing and drawing
~Read one-syllable short vowel CVC words
~Read, spell, and/or write chains of one syllable short vowel words in which one sound is added, substituted, or omitted (For example: net-met-vet-vat-van-fan-fin-pin-pan-pad)
~Read one-syllable short vowel CVC words and match them to pictures
~Identify uppercase and lowercase letters
~Form letters correctly
~Learn letter sounds
~Sort pictures by beginning, middle, and ending sounds

Math: Add and subtract within 10
~Solve conceptual problems using objects or drawings to represent the problem
~Review: Orally count by 1’s, 5’s and 10’s to 100

Social/Emotional Learning (SEL)
~ Demonstrate an awareness of your emotions
~ Recognize that there are many ways to solve conflicts and practices solving problems using different methods
~Demonstrate awareness and consideration of other people’s emotions, perspectives, and social cues
