Kindergarten News: 12/3

Hi Parents,
We had a groovy time celebrating the 70th day of school! It is hard to believe we are close to the end of our first semester of kindergarten! Please mark your calendar for our upcoming winter holiday celebration, Pajamas & Cocoa on December 16th. Check your child’s weekly class newsletter for more details!
Here’s what is coming up in kindergarten…


Essential Question: What makes a good story?
Focusing Questions: What is true about real farm animals? How do authors create settings?
~With prompting and support, ask and answer questions about key details in a text
~Identify main idea and key details from a text
~Retell key details of a given topic
~Describe and sort types of weather to gain a sense of the seasons
~Use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to compose informative/explanatory texts in which they name what they are writing about and supply some information about the topic
~Write from left to right (leaving spaces between words)
~Read, spell, and/or write chains of one-syllable short vowel words in which one sound is added, substituted, or omitted
~Read and write high frequency sight words (Heart Words)
~Form letters correctly


~ Represent subtraction with objects, fingers, mental images, or equations ~Decompose numbers less than or equal to five into addend pairs in more than one way
~ Review: Orally count by 1’s, 5’s and 10’s to 100

Social/Emotional Learning (SEL)

~ Guidance with Mrs. Twitchel!
~ Demonstrate awareness and consideration of other people’s emotions, perspectives, cultures, and celebrations.

Half-Day dismissal (11:30) & Last day to collect donated items for the Lopez family ~December 17th- January 6th- No School, Winter Break
