Kindergarten News: 4/22

Hi Parents,

It is hard to believe we are halfway through the final quarter of kindergarten! Next week is the final week of Take-Home Readers! Thank you for supporting us by listening to your child read these past several weeks! Their decoding skills, comprehension, and confidence have grown!

Here’s what we are learning in kindergarten…

Essential Question: How has life in America changed over time?
Focusing Question: What changes does the Little House see in her neighborhood?
~Use text evidence to create details about changes the in the text
~With prompting and support, ask and answer questions about key details in a text
~Understand and use question words
~Create sentences using illustrations of nouns and verbs
~Use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to respond to a prompt and supply information about a topic
~Spell words phonetically, drawing on sound-letter relationships
~Make the long vowel sound by adding silent e to words
~Demonstrate understanding of grade-level vocabulary
~Read, write, and spell high frequency sight words and “tricky words” (who, from, of, where, why, to, when, word, one, no, what, so, said)
~Read grade level texts with purpose and understanding

~Engage in science by asking questions and participate in collaborative investigations
~Observe and care for living things
~Communicate solutions that will reduce the impact from humans on land, water, air, and other living things in the local environment

~Read, write, count to 100 & review place value

Upcoming Dates
April 22nd- Tennis Social (see the PPE website for more details)
May 3rd- No School, Election Day
May 10th- PTO Meeting, 6:00
May 18th- Field Day 10:00-12:00 (volunteers are welcome)
May 23rd- Kindergarten Awards @ 8:15 (more info to come)
May 26th- Last Day of School, 11:30 dismissal
