Your INVEST donations help PPE in so many ways, including funding the salaries for six Interventionist and Enrichment teachers. These teachers help students who need additional support and enrichment, so that classroom teacher can work in smaller groups in the classroom. These teachers help ensure all PPE students receive the support they need!

Your little Tigers may have already met our wonderful and talented Interventionist and Enrichment these teachers. We thought you might enjoy meeting them too! Please meet two of the six teachers – Caren Wayburn  and Karla Brooks

My name is Caren Wayburn and I am currently the Math Interventionist at Percy Priest.  I have a Bachelor’s in Speech Pathology and a Master’s in Special Education.  I have over 40 years of experience in either the role of a Speech Pathologist or a Special Education teacher, the last 14 of those years here in MNPS schools.  I retired from MNPS in May of 2015 and began working as a part-time interventionist here at Percy Priest in August of 2015.  I have been serving in the role of either a reading or math interventionist since that time.

In my spare time, I enjoy spending quality time with family and friends, traveling (especially cruising), knitting, and going for long walks.  I have twin sons who are 22 years old, both of whom went through MNPS from Kindergarten through 12th grade.  One son and his wife live here in Nashville while the other is attending law school in Columbia, SC.

My name is Karla Brooks and I am an enrichment teacher at Percy Priest. I have a long history with the school, dating back to 1995. I have taught kindergarten, first, and second grades at Percy Priest, and I am excited to be working with enrichment students from all grade levels. My favorite thing about Percy Priest is the community aspect. No matter the year (or decade), the faculty, staff, and families of PPE have been passionate about providing a high-quality education for students in a positive and nurturing environment. The partnership between parents and staff has allowed Percy Priest to remain one of the best public schools in the state year in and year out. After some time off, I am thrilled to be back teaching at this great school. When I am not teaching, I enjoy hiking, playing tennis, reading, traveling, and spending time with my family.
