Ask your 2nd Grader:
- What is the setting of A Color of His Own? Who are the Characters? What was the problem? What was the resolution?
- How does the chameleon change?
- What is the definition of remain?
- What is important about partitioning shapes into halves, thirds, and fourths?
- How many fourths does it take to make a whole?
- When you investigated pushes and pulls this week, what did you notice?
- What word do you know that starts with a qu, wh, wr, or kn? Can you spell that word?
What 2nd Graders Are Learning Next Week:
ELA (English Language Arts):
- Wit and Wisdom Module 1: A Season of Change
- Essential Question: How does change impact people and nature?
- Learning Goals:
- Write an informative paragraph about how the chameleon in A Color of His Own changes, including a topic statement and evidence that supports the topic.
- Determine the central message of A Color of His Own .
- Write compound sentences by combining sentences using conjunctions.
- Make observations and ask questions about Why Do Leaves Change Colors?
- Connect academic vocabulary words separate and shape with content knowledge from previous texts in module 1.
- Tennessee Foundational Skills:
- Review and end-of-unit assessments
- Read tricky words – could, should, would, there, said, says, word
- Ask and answer questions about key details in the student reader, The Cat Bandit

- Theme: Hispanic Heritage Month – September 15 – October 15 is National Hispanic Heritage Month, a time when schools and communities across the country celebrate the history, culture, and contributions of Hispanic and Latinx Americans. Our concert in September gives students the opportunity to honor this tradition by learning songs in Spanish and exploring music from Hispanic cultures. This not only connects to national celebrations but also helps our students grow in cultural awareness, appreciation, and respect for the diverse communities that enrich our world.
