Math: In this unit, students will participate in explorations and activities to master how to represent and solve problems that involve either multiplication or division. Within this scope, students will master how to interpret the multiplication products of whole numbers through using models and descriptions.

Focus this week: Students interpret products of whole numbers using tape diagrams to solve problems in a scenario.

ELA: Unit Essential Question: Why do people explore the sea?
Students will continue reading Amos & Boris and use a story map to organize important elements such as characters, setting, and plot. Students will also group related information in their writing and learn how phrasing contributes to fluent reading.

Goals for the unit:
• Identify how artists and writers use domain-specific elements to express ideas.
• Explain how scientists observe the ocean carefully to learn more about it.
• Explain why squids and sharks are important to the sea’s ecosystem.
• Explain how people develop technology to solve problems.
