Students will explore drawing a scaled picture graph and a scaled bar graph to represent a data set with several categories. Students will solve one- and two-step problems using information in a bar graph, generate data by measuring lengths with a ruler marked with halves and fourths of an inch, and create a line plot and use it to represent and interpret data.

Students will begin their study of artists by listening to Allen Say’s picture book, Emma’s Rug, a fictional exploration of how artists find inspiration for their work. Students will engage in visual exploration of the text and complete a story map.
