In this unit, students explore how to partition a number line into equal parts and show that each part is of equal length; how to represent each equal partition of the space between two whole numbers as a unit fraction; how to partition sections between whole numbers to show fractional values between them; and how to locate and label fractional parts on a number line based on the distance from zero to the endpoint.
ELA:
Essential Question: How do stories help us understand immigrants’ experiences?
Focusing Question: What challenges do immigrants face in a new country?
Content Framing Question: How do Grandfather’s Journey and Tea with Milk build my knowledge?
*Continuing this week with our final draft*
Students will use their writing planner to write an essay explaining the challenges immigrants face in a new country. Students use the craft elements they studied, such as engaging the reader with a hook, grouping related information together, and using linking words and phrases. Students peer-review their classmates’ work and revise and edit their own work.
