SCHOOL UPDATES

BLACK HISTORY MONTH AT PERCY PRIEST

This year we are continuing to build on our Black History Month Reading Initiative.  The attached calendar includes links to daily read-alongs completed by current and former PPE staff.  These read-alongs can be accessed at school and at home.  Each day on morning announcements we include a question of the day for students to reflect on the text and how it relates to this month’s IB trait of being principled.  Additionally, our 4th grade students are preparing a musical performance in honor of Black History Month.

READATHON!

“The sun was shining, but some water still fell from the trees.
In front of the boxcar a pretty little brook ran over the rocks with a waterfall in it.
‘Henry!’ cried Jessie. “Let’s live here!’
~The Boxcar Children
Please Note: The folder needs to travel between home and school every day so students can log their in-school and at-home reading!
Read-a-Thon is always one of the best parts of the school year – two weeks celebrating reading, books and STORIES! Thank-you for coming alongside us and encouraging your child’s read-a-thon enthusiasm by incorporating reading in your family’s daily routine.
Important dates:
Tuesday, February 17th – Monday, March 2nd:
  • READ, READ, READ! At breakfast, in the car, outside, under the covers!
  • Tally your reading on the reading logs. Parents need to initial each entry.
  • Work on your challenge board. Students can collect badges as they complete the challenges (badges coordinate with the challenge board colors).
Friday, February 20th: Pajama Day! Wear your pajamas to school for a day of cozy reading!
Monday, March 2nd: Reading logs need to be turned in to your child’s classroom teacher.
Friday, March 6th:
  • CELEBRATION DAY – Favorite Book Character Dress-Up Day!
  • Students who achieve the 100 book (Kindergarten) and 1,500 minute (1st-5th) challenge will be recognized during morning announcements and receive a certificate and prize.

TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK

Each month, we put together some treats in the community room for the teachers and staff. It is a small way we can show our appreciation, and the teachers love it! For Teacher Appreciation Week, we are inviting the whole school to participate in a Treat Day on Friday, February 27th! You can help with this by signing up (https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0B44A4AB2DA5FAC25-61782794-teacher) to bring treats or help set up the community room. Items can be brought on the 26th or before 10:30 on the 27th.

SAVE THE DATE FOR THE 2026 PPE AUCTION PARTY

Silent Auction: There are so many amazing talents in our PPE community: artists, musicians, writers, ceramicists, singers, jewelers, the list goes on. The silent auction is a wonderful way to showcase your work while benefiting PPE and a wide variety of donations are accepted with great appreciation. If you have a piece of art or a few hours to teach a skill, email PercyPriestAuction@gmail.com.

Thank you to several families who have raised their hands to host Grade Level Parties. Hosts for the following grades are still needed: K Boys, 1st Girls, 2nd Girls, 2nd Boys, 3rd Girls, 3rd Boys, 5th Girls. Your time and efforts providing memory-making for the students while raising vital funds for our school. Email PercyPriestAuction@gmail.com with questions or to plan a party.

Auction Party: A night out always begs the question, “What should I wear?” So what does this mean for A Night of Wonder (4/11 6pm)? First of all, whatever you feel WONDERful in will be perfect. The evening will be an unforgettable celebration of artistry, generosity, and wonder so if you have jewel-tones in your closet, flowing fabrics like chiffon, or light-catching sequins you’re already set. Feel free to bring in velvet accents, a patterned pocket square, or dramatic earrings. Think elegant but imaginative with a touch of whimsy. Don’t stress but dress for a special night of fun that also strengthens the programs that make our school community thrive.

MOMS THRIVE

Join PPE Moms Thrive on Friday, February 27 at 9:00 am for coffee and pastries with guest speaker Jennifer Scoggins. Our topic: “From Control to Connection: Boundaries That Build Character.” Discover how to set boundaries rooted in family values. When you parent from your values rather than your current energy, you raise children who make good choices because they choose to, not just because you’re watching.
Moms Thrive is a gathering for Moms of all backgrounds, perspectives and faiths to meet in a home and hear from a speaker, educator, or other expert on parenting topics. Speakers present from a Biblical world perspective. It’s a great place to get to know other Moms from Percy Priest, support one another and gain parenting tools Don’t miss our next meeting – Join our mailing list here. and follow us on Instagram @PPETHRIVE.
