2nd Grade Newsletter – September 19, 2025

Ask your 2nd Grader:

  • What genre is the book Why Do Leaves Change Colors ? (nonfiction)
  • What is the meaning of absorb? (to soak up)
  • What is one thing that happens to trees in the winter? (They rest. They lose all their leaves so they can survive winter.)
  • How do you show the number 513 in expanded form, word form and standard form? 
  • (500 +10 +3/ five hundred thirteen/513)
  • What is the baseword of shrugged? (shrug)  When you added -ed to the word pat, what do you have to do? (double the t and add -ed)
  • What region of the United States do we live in?  (Southeast region)
  • What region are the Great Lakes in?  (The Great Plains Region)

What 2nd Graders Are Learning Next Week:

 ELA (English Language Arts):

  • Wit and Wisdom Module 1: A Season of Change
    • Essential Question: How does change impact people and nature?
    • Learning Goals: 
      • Determine connections between key terms and topics.
      • Draft and rehearse an informative paragraph.
      • Combine two sets of simple sentences into compound sentences
      • Publish an informative paragraph about the impact of weather on trees in the fall
      • Notice and Wonder the impact of color in Sky Tree paintings.
  • Tennessee Foundational Skills:
    • Sound/Spelling: ‘ow’ /ou/ (now); ‘ou’ /ou/ (shout); ‘oi’ /oi/ (soil); ‘oy’ /oi/ (toy); ‘er’ /er/ her;
