Kindergarten News: 5/13

Hi Parents,
We are very excited for Field Day on Wednesday, May 18th! Below are the details for this fun-filled event…

~Field Day is 10:00-12:00
~All “K” students will wear their blue PPE Tiger shirt and tennis shoes
~Sunscreen should be applied before school
~Please make sure your child’s name is on their water bottle
~At 12:00, we will say good-bye & all kindergarten students will return to their classroom for lunch 😊
~Rain date is Friday, May 20th

Here’s what we are learning in kindergarten… Essential Question: What can we learn about ocean animals?

~Ask and answer questions about words and pictures
~With prompting and support, ask and answer questions about key details in a text
~Identify the main topic and key details
~Use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to compose informative/explanatory texts in which they name what they are writing about and supply some information about the topic
~Participate in shared research and writing projects
~Use correct end punctuation
~Spell and write words phonetically, drawing on sound-letter relationships
~Read decodable text that incorporates the letter-sound correspondences that have been taught, with purpose and understanding
~Demonstrate understanding of grade-level vocabulary
~Read, write, and spell high frequency sight words and “tricky words”
~Read grade level texts with purpose and understanding

Math
~Compose larger shapes using simple shapes and identify smaller shapes within a larger shape

Upcoming Dates
– May 18th- Field Day, 10:00-12:00
– May 20th Spring Sing (for 2nd-4th grade parents)
– May 23rd- Kindergarten Awards @ 8:15
– May 26th- Last Day of School, 11:30 dismissal
