Principal’s Message: 2/27

Hello Percy Priest families!  This is Dr. Young with some important information about upcoming school events.

First, families please remember that our PTO grade-level newsletters are a great way to stay informed regarding grade level information.  The newsletters can be reviewed online at https://percypriest.wpengine.com/latest-news/.  If you have not signed up for the newsletter you can also sign-up at any time by visiting  https://percypriest.wpengine.com/contact-us/newsletter/

2021 Read-A-Thon is now underway!  Students are encouraged to log their reading minutes in Beanstack.  Beanstack can be found in the Clever portal for all students and the Clever portal can always be accessed from the ppelearn.com home page.  As part of Read-A-Thon we will have a pajama day this Friday, March 5th.    Read-A-Thon will run through March 10th and there will be a celebration / book character dress-up day on March 12th.  Please check Friday folders for more information.

This week, your student’s teacher will be sending home a letter that contains information about student progress and performance in MAP, Lexia, and iReady.  Families please remember that these assessments are just one piece of the bigger picture that is your student’s educational experience and we are all learning together how to best utilize these tools to help your student reach their educational goals.  We will be providing opportunities to help support families in interpreting this information.  On Tuesday, March 9th at 6PM we will host a session during our PTO meeting.  Spring parent-teacher conferences will also be held on Friday, March 26th and more details about signing up for conferences will be coming soon from your student’s teacher.

Kindergarten registration for the 2021-2022 school year has begun.  If you have an incoming kindergarten student or have friends or family with an incoming kindergartener, please encourage them to visit mnps.org for information on required forms for completing registration.

Tiger Club Registration for the 2021-2022 school year will begin on Monday, March 1st.  Spots fill up fast, so please visit https://percypriest.wpengine.com/students/tiger-club/ for more information.

A reminder that student meals for virtual students can still be picked up at the school on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 11:30-1:00.

Ticket packages are now on sale for our April 16th PTO virtual spring auction event.  Do you want to name our school cafeteria?  Have a special breakfast delivery from Percy?  Or maybe even have the opportunity to slime your principal?  Then you to visit www.percypriestauction.com for details about the event and information about donating an item.

Families please continue to help us to stop the spread of Covid-19 by remembering the following:

· Before students leave for school, families should check them for symptoms of COVID-19. If your student or someone else at home has a temperature, cough, shortness of breath, sudden loss of taste or smell, or other COVID-19 symptoms, you must keep them at home.

·All students and staff are required to wear masks throughout their day at school.

· To protect the safety of students and staff, no visitors, including parents or guardians, will be allowed into the school at this time.

For more information about upcoming school events, please remember to check the weekly PTO newsletter and visit percypriest.org.

Thank you and have a great weekend.

Russell Young, Ed. D.
