Kindergarten News: 9/15

Hi Families,
In kindergarten, the students are still exploring the five senses through our reading curriculum and other literature. In math, students are continuing to practice counting, laying the foundation for number skills. Stay tuned for more updates!

Reminders:
-A peanut free snack and water bottle should be sent each day.
-We love celebrating birthdays! Students can celebrate at school by bringing in individually wrapped, prepackaged treats. Please no cupcakes. Please coordinate with your teacher if your child’s birthday falls on a weekend, break, or day we are not in school.
-No school on Thursday Sepetember 14th.

ELA: ESSENTIAL QUESTION: How do our senses help us learn?
Students will…
-Read, enjoy, and analyze literary texts and visual art.
-Identify how words and pictures work together
-Engage with Focusing Questions, Content Framing Questions and Craft Questions.
-Understand and describe the setting, main idea and main characters in a story
-Experiment adding details to their drawings
-Using text evidence to answer questions and add more details
-Orally blend sounds into words
-Identifying the intial sound in words
-Demonstrate and practice the letter sounds and names of M,A,T, and D.

MATH:
-Explore and use math tools.
-Recognize that the number of objects in a set represents quantity.
-Use appropriate word choice to reason about similarities and differences of sorted objects.
-Count forward beginning from a given number
-Write numerals 0-20
-Count groups of up to 20 objects
-Compose and Decompose numbers to 10

Social/Emotional Learning (SEL)
-Learning the importance of following the rules at school
-Understand and use strategies for self-management
-Demonstrate being a good friend
-Understand how our choices affect others around us
-Demonstrate being responsible
-Demonstrate awareness and consideration of other people’s emotions, perspectives, and social cues
