Principal’s Message: April 5-9

Hello Percy Priest families!  This is Dr. Young with some important information about upcoming school events.

We are less than two weeks away from our PTO virtual spring auction on April 16th.  Visit www.percypriestauction.com for details and information about the event.  Ticket packages and student boxes are available for purchase.  There will be great items to bid on and we hope you can join us in making this an exciting event for our school community.

The district’s Promising Scholars summer program will run June 7 through July 2 and is open to all MNPS students in grades K-12 at no cost to families.  Registration for the program is now open and will remain open through May 5th.  Percy Priest will not be a hub location, but our students will enjoy all the benefits of the program at a nearby school.  Please see the attached flyer and visit summer.mnps.org for more information.

MNPS has compiled a list of community resources to assist and support families with addressing varying potential impacts of the pandemic.  This resource guide can be found attached to the email that accompanies this phone call and please reach out to your child’s teacher or our school counselors if you need additional support.

Our district has partnered with Meharry Medical College to support the implementation of Covid-19 protocols and provide testing in each school location.  For information about this partnership and the testing protocols please see the letter attached to this email or visit https://backsafely.org.  A copy of this letter was also sent home in your student’s Friday folder.  The testing is an opt-in program, so please complete the registration form and return it to the school if you wish for your child to participate.

Families please continue to help us to stop the spread of Covid-19 by remembering the following:

· Before students leave for school, families should check them for symptoms of COVID-19. If your student or someone else at home has a temperature, cough, shortness of breath, sudden loss of taste or smell, or other COVID-19 symptoms, you must keep them at home.

·All students and staff are required to wear masks throughout their day at school.

· To protect the safety of students and staff, no visitors, including parents or guardians, will be allowed into the school at this time.

Our PTO grade-level newsletters are a great way to stay informed regarding grade level information.  The newsletters can be reviewed online at https://percypriest.wpengine.com/latest-news/.

Thank you and have a great weekend.
